During her time as a professor, she was instrumental in developing the college’s Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies program.
Dr. Malino started her career as a high school teacher in the 1960s, but soon felt the therapeutic school spent too much time disciplining underachieving students. She spent time living abroad in England and Israel and realized her goal was to educate students in history. Dr. Malino was set on her path after graduating Wellesley College with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy. She proceeded to earn a Master of Philosophy in history and Ph.D. in American History at Columbia University. Throughout the years, Dr. Malino has chaired many associations, including the Educational Policies Committee, the Strategic and Long Range Planning Committee and the Women’s Studies Committee. Additionally, she has been a member of the Women’s Resource Center of Greensboro, the American Studies Association and the Coalition of Voices Against Racism, Sexism and Homophobia with the Guilford College Anti-Racism Initiative. Looking toward the future, Dr. Malino endeavors to continue writing grants and working on the collaborative research project.
