Greensboro, NC, June 13, 2016, Sarah Malino, Professor of History Emerita at Guilford College, has been recognized by Elite Women Worldwide, for dedication, achievement and leadership in education.

Skilled in the field of U.S. history, Dr. Malino is noted for her nearly four decades of work as an educator. With her focus in U.S. history, Dr. Malino taught topics on race, class, gender, economic relations and the global impact of United States expansion. In addition to her work as a professor, she is known for her community volunteer work. While retired from her position as a professor of history, Dr. Malino remains active in assisting in a collaborative feminist project that explores 40 years of women’s studies students and educators. During her time as a professor, she was instrumental in developing the college’s Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies program.

Dr. Malino started her career as a high school teacher in the 1960s, but soon felt the therapeutic school spent too much time disciplining underachieving students. She spent time living abroad in England and Israel and realized her goal was to educate students in history. Dr. Malino was set on her path after graduating Wellesley College with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy. She proceeded to earn a Master of Philosophy in history and Ph.D. in American History at Columbia University. Throughout the years, Dr. Malino has chaired many associations, including the Educational Policies Committee, the Strategic and Long Range Planning Committee and the Women’s Studies Committee. Additionally, she has been a member of the Women’s Resource Center of Greensboro, the American Studies Association and the Coalition of Voices Against Racism, Sexism and Homophobia with the Guilford College Anti-Racism Initiative. Looking toward the future, Dr. Malino endeavors to continue writing grants and working on the collaborative research project.
