Ms. Callender celebrates nearly a decade with the Naval Oceanographic Office, where she provides services in management, leadership, research and analysis. She manages such studies as the marine seafloor geology profile and fleet projects for the U.S. Navy. Additionally, her skills as a GIS project manager are used when acquiring data and integrating seafloor geology, physical oceanography, meteorology, bathymetry, ice, shipping and fisheries into navigation and safety specifications for clients. Furthermore, Ms. Callender is the project manager for the Global Marine Environmental Library, which integrates academia and published documents into databases interconnected to GIS data. Her work is not done yet, as she is an AUV Survey GIS analyst of the Remote Environmental Measuring Unites (REMUS), which analyzes side-scan sonar. She provides her expertise for the ISS-60 Watchstander for oceanographic surveys, which include processing of multi-beam bathymetry. Continue reading →

Distinguished for nearly four decades in education, Dr. Koehnke is an expert in psychoacoustics, binaural and spatial hearing and university teaching. She is proficient in grant writing, research, curriculum development, public speaking and program development. As a professor at Montclair State University, Dr. Koehnke oversees the day-to-day function of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders as the chair. At the university, she teaches audiology doctoral courses and mentors student research. She has been a staple to the Montclair State University community for more than 11 years and credits her success to her persistence, hard work, diligence and goal-oriented nature.

Dr. Koehnke was inspired to go into her field by her parents. She has also been inspired by her longtime mentors, Dr. Susan Jerger and Dr. Steve Colburn, as well as her longtime colleague and friend, Dr. Joan Besing, with whom she has worked for almost 30 years. She got her start at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in communication sciences and disorders. She then obtained a master’s degree in audiology at the State University of New York at Geneseo. In 1983, she earned a Ph.D. in communication sciences from the University of Connecticut. She followed this up with a postdoctoral fellowship at MIT from 1983 to 1986. The highlight of her career thus far has been establishing the audiology program at MSU. This program opened at a time when the only audiology doctoral program in New Jersey was closing, and she was able to move the program from that institution to MSU and offer admission to the students from this program. After dedicating 47 years in the law enforcement field, Ms. Hoffart retired from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. During her time in the service, she helped develop a library that became a fully automated resource center used by cadets in training. Her position required her to be a leader, and she was often directing others, implementing organization management and training others regarding law enforcement. Her fruitful career with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police was recognized with a Long Service Medal.

Ms. Hoffart’s decision to join the RCMP is largely based on her desire to help others. Her success was built upon her selflessness, and because she enjoys helping others, she was also able to work well with her colleagues. Her career as a librarian and manager is speckled with many achievements, however, Ms. Hoffart points out that her greatest accomplishment has been sharing her information with others. In her retirement, she still enjoys helping others and is active at her local church where she is a Sunday school teacher. Continue reading →
