Ormond, FL, June 2, 2016, Debbie Schaum, Associate Professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, has been recognized by Elite Women Worldwide, for dedication, achievement and leadership in aviation education.
As an associate professor at the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for the past 12 years, Debbie Schaum has taught courses in aviation, aerospace and weather to scores of students. Designing a curriculum that culls in real-life lessons to the program, her courses focus on preparing the future air crews. In addition to teaching at the university, Ms. Schaum volunteers her time to elementary, middle and high school students to introduce them to the field of meteorology. She often reaches out to students to illustrate the real world benefits of mathematics and science while highlighting the amazing careers of aviation and meteorology.
Prior to teaching, Ms. Schaum served in the Air Force and retired at the ranking of a major. She had also been a member in the ROTC where she created a scholarship program for students. Ms. Schaum prepared for her career in aviation by attending the University of Missouri System, Columbia, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in atmospheric sciences. She continued her education at Webster University to receive a master’s degree in management. She maintains membership with the University Aviation Association. In the years to come, Ms. Schaum endeavors to earn a Ph.D. in meteorology, as well as continuing educating at Emery-Riddle Aeronautical University.
