Hempstead, NY, December 11, 2015, Melanie Freese, Associate Professor and Assistant Chair of Technical Services at Hofstra University, has been recognized by Elite Women Worldwide, for dedication, achievement and leadership in library and technical services.

Demonstrating more than four decades of experience, Ms. Freese has spent the majority of her career at Hofstra University. Primarily responsible for cataloging a variety of materials for the curriculum materials center, she has stressed the importance of libraries and the ever-important role of the librarian in our society. With a world full of information that is more accessible than ever before, the role of the librarian are able to effectively navigate through the saturation of information. Ms. Freese also utilizes her 40 years in the industry to efficiently mentor and educate younger colleagues and students.

Introduced to the field after working in an academic library, Ms. Freese first began her career by earning a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a minor in history from Hofstra University. She then pursued and earned a master’s degree in elementary education from the same university and a Master of Library Science from the C.W. Post campus at Long Island University. She received her public librarian certification in 1997, and is also a certified elementary teacher in the state of New York.

Her incredible accomplishments stack up outside of the bookshelves as well. She helped to establish a library at the Salvation Army’s Wayside Home School for Girls. She was named a Woman of the Year from the Business and Professional Women of Nassau County, Inc. in 1994, earned the Twentieth Century Award for Achievement and the International Order of Merit from the International Biographical Center. She was also recognized with the Distinguished Service Award from St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, where she teaches Sunday school and lectures.
