Her focus at the time was polymer chemistry, and she eventually went on to earn a Ph.D. in polymer science from Clemson University in 2000. Since then, she has enjoyed various research roles, ultimately culminating in her position with Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics Corporation, a material science and engineering company that provides performance materials, such as glass, polymers and composites.
