There are only a handful of people in the United States designated to control the containment of Type 1 forest fires, those forest fires are categorized as the largest and most devastating. Prior to retiring, she was involved with forest and wild protection services for nearly 40 years. She received the Type 1 Incident Commander title in 2005, as well as a master’s certificate in leadership. Her expertise in managing incidents, directing the protection of 1.6 million acres of land, supervising fire suppression, hazard reduction and prescribed fires, and overseeing aviation and national response has served and benefited various regions across the country.
