Staten Island, NY, December 8, 2015, Elaine Adevai, Executive Director of New Vista for Families, Inc., has been recognized by Elite Women Worldwide, for dedication, achievement and leadership in nonprofit organization.
Ms. Adevai’s achievements have been largely fueled by her career as a psychologist. As the executive director of the New Vista for Families shelter on Staten Island, Ms. Adevai’s work is important to the lives of the families the facility assists. The shelter serves as a temporary home and counseling center for domestic abuse victims and their families. Ms. Adevai supervises the staff and offers counseling and therapeutic services. She also handles community outreach to raise donations, and helps the women and children that are referred to New Vista get back on their feet and find permanent housing.
The journey for Ms. Adevai to open the independent shelter began in 1967, when she graduated Douglass College with a Bachelor of Science in pre-medical studies. She continued to achieve a Master of Science in clinical psychology from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey in 1970. Since opening the shelter in the mid-2000’s, Ms. Adevai has received the Distinction Award from the Staten Island Chapter of the World of Women.
Ms. Adevai is affiliated with the New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the Human Resources Administration, and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. In the coming years she hopes to expand her psychoeducational and counseling services to more women and children by expanding the shelter. Establishing the New Vista for Families shelter has been the highlight of her career, and Ms. Adevai hopes with her perseverance to continue these services and more.
