As a registered nurse and case manager, Ms. Gilliland has extensive volunteer experience, having served for eight years at the Senator John Heinz History Center. This educational institution details the rich and storied history of Western Pennsylvania through archaeology, archives, artifact collections, educational programs and exhibitions.

Affiliated with the Smithsonian, the Senator John Heinz History Center includes a conservation center, a full library complete with archives, and the Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village. In 2009, the American Alliance of Museums recognized the History Center as an accredited museum. The Senator John Heinz History Center is one of less than 800 museums in America to receive this designation.
