Ms. Smith has been a specialist with CB&I for eight years and has been involved with the construction industry for more than a decade. She decided to go into this career due to her involvement as a paramedic. In her role, she works on the medical side of environmental health. Working in construction was first a side job for Ms. Smith, but lead to a full-time career, which she enjoys. CB&I is a leading provider of technology and infrastructure in the energy industry and Ms. Smith helps to ensure the safety of her co-workers in the workplace.
To prepare for a career in health and construction, Ms. Smith earned a degree in general science education from the University of North Alabama. For her job, it is important to have strong communication skills. These skills help her to work with others and meet day-to-day challenges. In addition, she was inspired to go into her field due to her parents, who encouraged her to be anything that she wanted. They also instilled in her a strong work ethic and a passion for continuous learning. She obtained a state paramedic license and is listed in the paramedic national registry.
There are several challenges Ms. Smith faces in her day-to-day job. At times, it is difficult to work with employees who have sustained work-related injuries, but she recognizes this as important work. She loves her job and the people she works with and it makes the difficulties much easier to manage. Her goal is to continue becoming the best professional she can be and hopes to continue her education. She endeavors to become part of a special response team. Ms. Smith is involved with the Women in Nuclear Global, the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians and the National Association of Professional Women. Additionally, she is an honored member of The International Women’s Leadership Association, recognized for her contribution to family, career and community.
