Title: Technology Director
Location: Worland, WY
Worland, WY, April 8, 2016, Kathryn Wise, Technology Director for Washakie County School District #1, has been recognized by Elite Women Worldwide for her achievements, dedication and leadership in educational technology.
“Technology is an incredible resource that as a society we have been privileged to use to grow our knowledge beyond what anyone in the past has been able to,” says Ms. Wise, who notes that knowing how to properly utilize these resources is the key to unlocking its power. As an educator for the last 36 years, her background in teaching has afforded her the opportunity to share with students and educators how to make the most of their technology. At Washakie County School District #1, Ms. Wise supervises technology for 1,400 students in six buildings by ensuring that networks are working and by managing servers and switches. On a more personal level, she assists with teaching others how to use iPads, Chrome Books and other hardware and software.
Named Arch Coal Teacher of the Year in 2004, Ms. Wise is driven by her passion for education. Notably in her career, she secured government funding to get a complete infrastructure overhaul in the district. Without this funding, the district would not have had the budget necessary to provide any new technologies to their students. Because of Ms. Wise’s resilience and hard work, there are now computers in every classroom and mobile labs, iPads, and Chrome Books. Because of her background teaching computer classes, she was immediately able to start educating others on uses and applications.
Ms. Wise’s career is supported by her own education. She holds a master’s degree from Black Hills State University. It was during her studies that her passion for technology was ignited. She went on to focus her curriculum on education with an emphasis on technology. As she looks to the years ahead, Ms. Wise intends to take on more opportunities in educational technology with the hope of working at the collegiate level.
