New York, NY, January 13, 2016, Melba J. Duncan, Founder and President of The Duncan Group, and Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Duncan Leadership Institute, has been recognized by Elite Women Worldwide for dedication, achievement and leadership in consulting and executive assistance.
Ms. Duncan’s 30-year career has certainly been fruitful. After starting The Duncan Group in 1985, she has continued to build and maintain professional success. The Duncan Group, a retained search and consulting firm, aids in the recruitment of senior level executive assistants, and offers organizational consulting, coaching and training for professional assistants. The Duncan Leadership Institute addresses the demand for executive-level training for executive management assistants. The institute faculty is comprised of pioneers in executive education, including Dr. Norman Toy and Dr. Tom Ference, professors at Columbia University. Ms. Duncan’s primary responsibilities include overseeing all day-to-day operations of both the firm and the institute, including client management, and conducting extensive workshops on the issues of women in business, career and personal development. In the next five years, Ms. Duncan hopes to have her institute be the most sought-after program nationally.
Prior starting her own companies, Ms. Duncan worked an assistant to Sanford C. Bernstein, chairman and chief executive officer of Sanford C. Bernstein & Co., a New York Stock Exchange member firm. Recognized for her skills and dedication, Ms. Duncan was elected corporate secretary and became a stockholder with the firm. From 1976 to 1985, she was the assistant to The Hon. Peter G. Peterson, founder of The Peter G. Peterson Foundation, and chairman emeritus and co-founder of The Blackstone Group. She completed coursework in clinical psychology and law at Queens College and New York University, and is a Registered Representative of the New York Stock Exchange through the National Association of Securities Dealers.
Ms. Duncan is affiliated with The Seraphic Society and The National Association of Professional Women. She has been honored and recognized for her work numerous times; in 2010 she presented “Shaping Your Future: Maintaining Your Competitiveness” at The World Bank in Washington, D.C., and in 2009 she was the keynote speaker at the 17th Annual Administrative Professionals Conference in Orlando, FL. Ms. Duncan won the Crain’s Small Business Award in 2000, and the Women of the Year Congressional Award for Leadership Achievements and Inspiration to Women in 1993. In addition to her two businesses, Ms. Duncan also has a weekly radio show, and is currently working on her second book.
