Vancouver, BC, November 18, 2015, Lizanne Mailhot, Controller for Pacific Blue Cross/BC Life, has been recognized by Elite Women Worldwide for dedication, achievements and leadership in insurance.

“My past experiences in different companies have assisted in ‘setting the stage’ for my success,” says Ms. Mailhot, who celebrates her fifth year as controller with Pacific Blue Cross/BC Life this year. In her career, she has gained tremendous experience in the information technology and insurance fields and developed an expertise in process improvement and change management. Ms. Mailhot brings with her the ability to implement programs that benefit the daily operations of the company. Notably, she was involved with the development of a “new” web-based claim system that helped streamline claim preparation. Utilizing her technology background, she ensured that the new system included appropriate controls. In this role, Ms. Mailhot also worked in the production of invoices and statements, and ensured coding to the financial systems was accurate. Her assistance allowed the team to express needs and concerns regarding information technology to ensure the system generated the correct information.

Ms. Mailhot admits that automating more of the manual systems within the company has been her primary focus to date. She is gratified by the aspect of her career that allows her to mentor emerging professionals in the field. Ms. Mailhot advises, “Be flexible and be willing to learn new things.”

In her spare time, Ms. Mailhot sits on the board for the Salvation Army of Vancouver on the advisory committee. She also enjoys playing soccer, watching hockey and football, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Looking ahead, Ms. Mailhot hopes to take on more of an advising and consulting role within her company.
